Since 1987, John Toomey Gallery has offered iconic Mid-Century modern artist- and architect-designed material in all decorative arts categories, including furniture, lighting, textiles, jewelry, ceramics and glass. The Modern Design Department represents a carefully curated selection of vetted material that will appeal to entry-level buyers as well as the most dedicated collector.

The gallery has represented works by Charles & Ray Eames, Hans Wegner, George Nakashima, Gilbert Rohde, Mies van der Rohe, Venini, Barovier, Eliel Saarinen, Alexander Girard, Verner Panton, Guido Gambone, Hagenauer, Pierre Jeanneret, Gertrud & Otto Natzler, Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Karl Springer, Paul Evans, Ettore Sottsass, Gio Ponti, Ed Wiener, Hector Aguilar, Tapio Wirkkala, Art Smith, William Spratling and many, many others.

Since 1999, Lisanne Dickson has curated more than 15,000 Mid-Century modern items for John Toomey Gallery in her role as a Modern Design specialist. Her areas of expertise include Art Deco, Modern, Mid-Century Modern, and Post-Modern, with a focus on American designers of the 1950s and 60s. She has served as a consultant to Miller’s Antiques Price Guide, coordinated the sale of de-accessioned items from the Art Institute of Chicago, and is often quoted in antique journals and news sources.
